Located in Torrance, CA this project for a young family of four is a 2,000sf addition and renovation of an existing 1000sf 1930’s beach bungalow. Sensitively scaled and massed to fit within the existing neighborhood context, conceptually, the house bungalow form is split into two with reorganized public and private spaces.

Grafting the two new roofs onto the top of the existing house allows the addition to maximize its new area, interior volumes and spatial potential while minimizing the demolition process. The new house plan fosters exterior living and space while a new dining and living great room allow for public entertaining.

The conceptual and formal approach taken ultimately allows the creation of a new visual and spatial identity for the house desired for the family.
